Will AI Take Over the World? | Types of AI Explained

What are Narrow AI, General AI, and Super AI? Learn how AI is evolving and whether it can ever take over the world.

Narrow AI (ANI) is what we have today, excelling at specific tasks like voice assistants or image recognition, without true understanding. General AI (AGI) is a hypothetical future where AI would possess human-like intelligence across all domains, learning and reasoning broadly. Further out is Super AI (ASI), an even more speculative stage where AI would vastly surpass human intelligence in every way. While AI is rapidly evolving and becoming more capable in specific areas, the idea of it “taking over the world” with consciousness or malevolent intent remains a theoretical concern for the far-off, hypothetical stages of AGI or ASI, not our current technology.
